Introducing the Lantern Project: An Information Session and Transcribe-a-thon In-Person

Please join us for an informational session about the Lantern Project, a multi-state and multi-institution effort to digitize legal records of enslaved persons led by Mississippi State University Libraries and generously funded by the National Historic Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) of the National Archives, to be followed by a mini-transcribe-a-thon using documents from the project.

Attendees will get tips on navigating both the project digital collection and specific historic documents included in the project, such as probate records, and experience working with digitized versions of historical documents and learning about the challenges of transcribing historical materials.

The first hour of the event will take place in the John Grisham Room on the 3rd floor of Mitchell Memorial Library, and the second hour will take place in Eli and Giles, electronic classrooms on the 1st floor of the Library. Refreshmemts will be provided!
