School of Architecture: Book of the Semester Lecture Panel Online

In Spring 2021, The College of Architecture, Art, and Design: School of Architecture (S|ARC) launched a new Book of the Semester initiative. The Book of the Semester is a reading that has attracted major public and professional interest and is essential for every architect, experienced or aspiring, to read and know about. This Spring, S|ARC faculty picked The Architecture of Happiness (2006) by Allain de Botton for the entire school to enjoy, learn from, and discuss. We are joined by the Shackouls Honors College, Institute for the Humanities, Mississippi State University Libraries, Arts and Sciences, and Department of Psychology in our excitement to read and spread the word about this book.

“An ugly room can coagulate any loose suspicions as to the incompleteness of life, while a sun-lit one set with honey-coloured limestone tiles can lend support to whatever is most hopeful within us. Belief in the significance of architecture is premised on the notion that we are, for better or for worse, different people in different places – and on the conviction that it is architecture’s task to render vivid to us who we might ideally be.” – Alain de Botton
